Hand unit

Last Updated: Jul 17, 2014 02:41PM CEST
The hand, abbreviated as ‘h’ or ‘hh’, is a unit of measurement of length, which is nowadays being used for the sole purpose of measuring the height of horses, ponies, and other equines. The measurement is commonly adopted in English speaking countries, such as the UK, USA, Canada, and Australia. The rest of Europe uses metric units, usually metres or centimetres, or both such as in South Africa.
